Professional services are only as good as the people who provide them.  Our principals have between 30 and 40 years of professional experience of consulting, accounting and auditing, industry and academic experience, and all have proven track records of providing high-quality services to clients.

Eugene Yano, MBA, CPA

Eugene leads our Litigation Consulting and Forensic Accounting, Government Services and Accounting and Business Assurance groups.  He has over 30 years of consulting, accounting and auditing, and industry experience, including 14 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (formerly Coopers & Lybrand LLP), as well as industry experience as Director of Strategic Planning.

Eugene assists both plaintiffs’ and defendants’ counsel in developing and evaluating economic damages in commercial litigation.  He specializes in disputes involving construction claims and defects, government contracting, lost profits, business interruption, employment and personal injury/medical malpractice.  He testifies at deposition and at trial.  He also has served as engagement or consulting principal on the audits of several large government agencies, including the Port of Oakland (maritime port and Oakland International Airport), San Francisco Water Department/Hetch Hetchy Project and East Bay Municipal Utility District (water utility for Oakland and surrounding area).  He also has consulted for the Port of San Francisco and San Francisco International Airport.

Eugene has an MBA from The University of Michigan and a BS from San José State University.  A CPA in California and Michigan, he recently completed a term on the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum, was a member of the Executive Management Committee of the Asian American Manufacturers Association, currently serves as Board Member and Chief Financial Officer of Friends of Presidio 640 and the Pacific Coast Immigration Museum, and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and California Society of CPAs.  He also is a seminar speaker on various accounting, auditing, bankruptcy and construction claims issues.  He also lectures on accounting topics to students at the University of California at Berkeley.

Candace Arai Yano, PhD

Candace Yano is our senior technical consultant on manufacturing and service operations management issues.  She is a Professor at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business (Haas) and Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR).  She teaches and provides consulting services in the areas of production, inventory and logistics planning, as well as quality management.  She has consulted for and directed research projects in collaboration with a number of companies, including two of the “Big Three” automakers.

She currently serves as the Group Chair of the Operations and Information Technology Management Group at Haas and served as the IEOR Department Chair for six years (1995-2001).  Prior to joining Berkeley, she was on the faculty at The University of Michigan, and was a Member of the Technical Staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories.  At Bell Labs, she was involved in several projects to assist AT&T in planning for the divestiture of the local operating companies.  She also has held the Visiting Susan Bulkeley Butler Chair in Operations Management at the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.

Candace has PhD, MS and AB degrees from Stanford University.  She has leadership positions at the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science, as well as a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and several other professional organizations.  She is the former editor of IIE Transactions, and serves on the editorial boards of several other journals in the areas of manufacturing, industrial engineering and operations research.

Victor Young, CPA

Vic Young is our principal in charge of engagement quality control, serving as consulting principal on many of our consulting and business assurance engagements.  He currently assists several publicly-held companies in their efforts to document and test internal control systems in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.  He also has served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of several venture-funded technology companies, including both publicly- and privately-held companies.  Vic has over 40 years of professional experience, including 27 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (formerly Coopers & Lybrand LLP), where he was a Senior Partner in both San Francisco and Taiwan.  He also was US Managing Partner and Worldwide CFO of WI Harper Group, a company that specializes in building alliances between technology companies in the US and Asia (and particularly in the Greater China Region). He has served clients in industries such as technology, manufacturing, construction, government and not-for-profit organizations.

Vic has a BS degree from San Francisco State University.  A CPA in California, Vic is a Past President of the Asian Business League in San Francisco, and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and founding member of Asian American Certified Public Accountants.  He is a seminar speaker on various US/Asia business, and finance and accounting topics.
